Product Description

Product Description of Sodium chlorite CAS#7758-19-2

Sodium chlorite (NaClO₂) is a white crystalline solid with strong oxidizing power and can accelerate organic combustion. It is extensively used in papermaking, water treatment, pulp bleaching, textiles, oil processing and disinfection.

In organic synthesis, it oxidizes aldehydes to carboxylic acids and alkyl furans to 4‑oxo‑2‑alkenoic acids. Mixed with acids like citric acid, it serves as acidified sodium chlorite for surface sanitization and food washing. It is also employed in military and special fields to inhibit microorganisms and foodborne pathogens.

Product Application of Sodium chlorite CAS#7758-19-2

Sodium chlorite generates chlorine dioxide in situ for textile stripping, bleaching, and pulp and paper processing. It acts as an efficient disinfectant for water treatment and a preservative in ophthalmic preparations, and is also used in contact lens cleaners and air duct sanitation.

Blended with zinc chloride, it is formulated into therapeutic rinses, toothpastes, oral sprays and gels. In organic synthesis, it converts alkyl furans to 4-oxo-2-alkenoic acids, and functions as a reagent in Pinnick oxidation to convert aldehydes to carboxylic acids.
