Product Description

Product Description of Bismuth(III) Oxide CAS#1304-76-3

Bismuth(III) oxide forms by heating bismuth metal or its carbonate in air. A typical basic oxide, it dissolves easily in acid solutions. Unlike arsenic and antimony analogs, it lacks solution amphoterism yet forms stoichiometric adducts with metal oxides upon heating.

It has three crystal forms: white rhombohedral, yellow rhombohedral and gray-black cubic. Bismuth(II) oxide (BiO) can be prepared by heating basic bismuth oxalate.

Product Application of Bismuth(III) Oxide CAS#1304-76-3

Bismuth(III) oxide is applied to synthesize BiFeO₃ perovskite nanoparticles. It is widely used in disinfectants, magnets, glass, rubber vulcanization, fireproof paper, polymers and catalysts.

It replaces red lead to create the "dragon's eggs" effect in fireworks. Cost-effective and easy to handle, bismuth(III) compounds serve as excellent reagents and catalysts in organic synthesis. Its nanoparticles are vital for high-energy gas generators, and the α-phase exhibits p-type electrical conductivity.
