Decabromodiphenyl ether is a white fine powder with non-corrosive property. It is insoluble in water, ethanol, acetone and benzene, and slightly soluble in chlorinated aromatic hydrocarbons. It features stable chemical and thermal performance with a melting point of 304–309℃, bromine content over 82%, and specific gravity of 3.02. Its 5% thermal decomposition temperature exceeds 320℃, and rat oral LD50 is higher than 15 g/kg. It is a non-toxic, environmentally friendly and high-efficiency flame retardant.

Decabromodiphenyl oxide is a non-reactive additive flame retardant with excellent thermal stability and cost performance. It is widely used in thermoplastic and thermosetting resins, textiles and adhesives, including high-impact polystyrene, glass-reinforced thermoplastic polyester, low-density polyethylene extrusion coatings, polypropylene, ABS, nylon and PVC.
