Stannous octoate is a white to pale yellow-brown paste. It is soluble in petroleum ether and insoluble in water. It features low toxicity, with rat oral LD50 of 3400 mg/kg and rabbit acute percutaneous LD50 over 2000 mg/kg.


Product Application of Stannous octoate CAS#301-10-0

Stannous octoate is prone to hydrolysis and oxidation, and incompatible with polyether premixes. It exhibits higher catalytic activity than dibutyltin dilaurate. Widely used as a polyurethane catalyst, it fits soft block polyether PU foams, coatings, elastomers and room-temperature curing silicone rubbers. As a divalent tin compound, it can be oxidized to tetravalent tin during foaming, serving as an antioxidant in the foam without impairing its properties.
