Product Description

Product Description of Methanesulfonic acid CAS#75-75-2

Methanesulfonic acid (CH₃SO₃H, MSA) is a strong organic acid. It is abundantly generated in the atmosphere by the chemical oxidation of dimethyl sulfide and biodegradable into carbon dioxide and sulfate. With lower toxicity and corrosiveness than conventional mineral acids, MSA is considered a green acid. Its aqueous solution is commonly used as a model electrolyte in electrochemical processes.

Product Application of Methanesulfonic acid CAS#75-75-2

Methanesulfonic acid is non-volatile and well soluble in organic solvents, widely used as a catalyst for esterification, alkylation and condensation reactions. It applies to the synthesis of starch esters, oxidized wax esters, benzoate esters, phenolic esters and various alkyl esters. In polar tetrahydrofuran solvent, it reacts with sodium borohydride to form borane-tetrahydrofuran complex.
