Sodium polyacrylate acts as a scale inhibitor and detergent builder to enhance cleaning performance and regulate water hardness, also serving as a processing auxiliary in soaps and detergents.

It can absorb water-based spills, and works as a water retention and slow-release agent.

It is also widely applied as a suspending agent, stabilizer and emulsifier in various industrial formulations.
