Product Description

Product Description of Propylene glycol CAS#57-55-6

1,2-Propanediol (Propylene Glycol, CAS 57-55-6) is industrial grade with purity ≥99.5%. It is a colorless viscous liquid, almost tasteless with a faint sweet odor. It has a melting point of −59°C, a boiling point of 187°C, a vapor pressure of 0.011 kPa at 20°C, and a relative density of 1.036 at 20°C. It is miscible with water in all ratios and compatible with most organic solvents. It remains stable under normal conditions and should be stored away from strong oxidizing agents.

Product Application of Propylene glycol CAS#57-55-6

Propylene glycol has similar uses to other glycol products. It serves as a major raw material for manufacturing unsaturated polyester, epoxy resin and polyurethane resin, which consumes around 45% of its total output. Unsaturated polyester is commonly applied in reinforced plastics and surface coatings. Thanks to its good viscosity, moisture retention and non-toxicity, propylene glycol is also widely used in food, pharmaceutical and cosmetic fields as a humectant, antifreeze, lubricant and solvent.
