Product Description

Product Description of ‌Potassium ferricyanide CAS#13746-66-2

Potassium ferricyanide, also called red prussiate of potash or Prussian red, with the IUPAC name potassium hexacyanoferrate(III), is bright red crystal and easily soluble in water. It is prepared by introducing chlorine into potassium ferrocyanide solution. It is basically non-toxic, but may produce hazards upon heating or mixing with specific chemicals. It is mainly used to manufacture Prussian Blue pigment for blueprinting, and acts as a reagent to detect ferrous ions. In photography, it works as an oxidizing agent for silver removal via dot etching, and enables manual color correction by shrinking color dots in color photography. It is also widely used in chemical and physiological experiments to raise solution redox potential, as well as in iron and steel hardening, electroplating, wool dyeing and laboratory reagent fields.

Product Application of Potassium ferricyanide CAS#13746-66-2

Potassium ferricyanide is widely used as electron transfer mediator in amperometric biosensors. It replaces the natural electron carrier of enzymes like glucose oxidase and promotes efficient electron transfer during detection. It is also a key component of Murakami’s etchant, commonly applied in metallurgy for etching and analysis of cemented carbides.
