Product Description

Product Description of Neodymium oxide CAS#1313-97-9

Neodymium oxide (Nd₂O₃) is a blue-gray rare earth powder composed of neodymium and oxygen. It has a hexagonal crystal structure, and is hygroscopic, air-carbon dioxide absorbable, with faint red fluorescence. It is insoluble in water but soluble in acids, and boasts distinctive properties for wide use in glass and ceramics. Added at 1–2%, it imparts a bright aqua tone to most glazes; at 4–7%, it presents an elegant lavender to grape shade with color shifting under different artificial light sources. Its color expression is greatly affected by iron content. Low iron impurities deliver vivid blue and lavender tones, while iron oxidation results in a neutral transparent gray.

Product Application of Neodymium oxide CAS#1313-97-9

Neodymium(III) oxide is an inorganic compound with neodymium in +3 oxidation state and a 2:3 elemental ratio of neodymium to oxygen, adopting a hexagonal crystal structure. Also known as neodymium oxide or neodymium sesquioxide, it has extensive industrial applications. It is widely used in ceramic capacitors, glass coloring, carbon arc lamp electrodes and color television tubes, and also serves as a dehydrogenation catalyst. Around 65% of its consumption is applied to offset the color interference caused by iron impurities in glass.
