Product Description

Product Description of Magnesium fluoride CAS#7783-40-6

Magnesium Fluoride is a fine white crystalline powder, mainly obtained as a by-product from metallic beryllium and uranium production, featuring high chemical stability and low reactivity. It is widely used as a flux in magnesium metallurgy and ceramics. It also helps extract aluminum from arc-furnace alloys containing iron, silicon, titanium and carbon. High-purity Magnesium Fluoride transmits light from 140 nm vacuum ultraviolet to 7 μm infrared, suitable for ultraviolet optical components in aerospace. It is also an excellent antireflection coating material with low refractive index and superior optical properties.

Product Application of Magnesium fluoride CAS#7783-40-6

Magnesium Fluoride acts as a flux in magnesium metallurgy and ceramics. Its single crystals feature broad transmittance from ultraviolet to mid-infrared for optical use, and infrared transparent windows can be fabricated by hot-pressing its powder. Ternary graphite intercalation compounds containing fluorine and Magnesium Fluoride show high conductivity, with potential for cathode and advanced conductive material applications. The NaF–MgF₂ eutectic is also researched for latent heat energy storage in solar systems.
