Product Description

Product Description of Phosphorus pentoxide CAS#1314-56-3

Phosphorus pentoxide, or phosphoric anhydride, is a phosphorus oxide made by burning phosphorus in dry air. It is highly deliquescent white powder or colorless monoclinic crystal at room temperature.

It melts at 580–585°C, sublimes at 347°C with relative density 2.39, and turns into glassy form under pressure at 563°C. It dissolves in sulfuric acid, yet insoluble in acetone and ammonia.

Product Application of Phosphorus pentoxide CAS#1314-56-3

Phosphorus pentoxide is widely used as desiccant, dehydrant, organic condensation agent and lab reagent, also for sugar refining and fire suppression.

Dissolved in DMSO, it forms Onodera reagent for alcohol oxidation. It can also convert mineral acids into corresponding acid anhydrides.
