Sodium Silicate (2Na₂O·SiO₂) is the simplest form of glass. It occurs as greenish glass lumps soluble in steam under pressure, white powders with varying solubility, or clear to turbid liquid solutions. It is non-flammable. Nevertheless, when its powder disperses in air, it may trigger a dust explosion upon contact with an ignition source. Inhalation of the dust also poses health hazards. Furthermore, its glassy form may bring potential risks to emergency personnel in accident scenarios.

Sodium Silicate (CAS 1344-09-8) enjoys extensive applications in multiple industries. In the construction industry, it is used as an adhesive, anti-corrosion coating and soil stabilizer.
