Product Description

Product Description of Sodium Metabisulfite CAS#7681-57-4

Sodium Metabisulfite (Na₂S₂O₅) is a white crystalline or powdery solid with a faint sulfur odor. It is toxic by inhalation and causes severe irritation to skin and mucosal tissues. At high temperatures, it decomposes, releasing toxic fumes of sulfur oxides and sodium oxide.

Product Application of Sodium Metabisulfite CAS#7681-57-4

Sodium Metabisulfite has strong reducing properties. It is widely used in the food industry as an antioxidant, preservative and bleaching agent for meat, wine, preserved fruits and other products. It is also extensively applied in textile printing and dyeing, papermaking and pulping, water treatment, leather softening and other chemical processes. In the pharmaceutical industry, it acts as a synthetic intermediate and an antioxidant for injectable preparations. Additionally, it is used in photography, rubber processing, agriculture and other fields. Notably, Sodium Metabisulfite releases toxic sulfur dioxide when contacting acids. It should be stored in a tightly sealed container in a cool and dry place, and kept away from acids and oxidizing agents.
