It is also commonly used in ceramics, enamels and glazes as an efficient opacifying agent. It can be used as an additive in special cement formulations and processed into grinding beads for industrial grinding. Zirconium silicate and hafnium silicate thin films can be prepared by CVD, which are promising alternative gate dielectric materials to replace silicon dioxide in the electronics industry. In Europe, zirconium silicate is also applied in cosmetic products such as creams and powders.
