Hexafluorosilicic acid is an inorganic acid with broad industrial applications. It is mainly used in water fluoridation to reduce dental caries incidence. It serves as a key raw material for manufacturing aluminum fluoride, cryolite and various hexafluorosilicate salts, and is also applied in the production of silicon and silicon dioxide. It acts as an electrolyte in the Betts electrolytic process for lead refining. In organic synthesis, it is used as a special reagent for the selective cleavage of Si–O bonds in silyl ethers.
