Hexamethylene diisocyanate is a colorless to slightly yellow liquid with a pungent odor. It is slightly soluble in water and reacts slowly upon contact. The compound has a relative density of approximately 1.05 at room temperature, a boiling point of 255–261°C, and a melting (freezing) point of −67 to −55°C. The saturated vapor concentrations are 46 mg/m³ at 20°C and 137 mg/m³ at 30°C.
