p-Cresol is a colorless to pink crystal with a smoky, herbal odor. Its relative density (d420) is 1.0178, refractive index (nD20) is 1.5312, melting point is 34.8℃, boiling point is 201.9℃, and flash point is 86.1℃. It is soluble in water (2.3%/40℃) and readily soluble in caustic alkalis and common organic solvents. It is found naturally in ylang-ylang oil, strawberries, cheese, coffee, cocoa, etc.

Uses

p-Cresol is a bactericide/fungicide and core chemical intermediate. Its main uses include manufacturing antioxidants (264, rubber antioxidants), pharmaceuticals (TMP, disinfectants), agrochemicals (thiophanate-methyl, flufenoxuron, fenpropathrin), phenolic resins, plasticizers and dyes.
