Doxycycline hydrochloride is hygroscopic crystalline powder, soluble in water and methanol. It has a broad antibacterial spectrum with potency ten times that of tetracycline and works against tetracycline-resistant strains. It is widely used for respiratory, urinary tract infections, typhoid fever and mycoplasma pneumonia.

It shares a similar antibacterial spectrum with tetracycline and oxytetracycline yet delivers stronger activity, with obvious cross drug resistance among them. It achieves good oral absorption.
