The trivalent cobalt ion within its structure is similar to porphyrin and is positioned at the center of a corrin ring.
It is the largest and most structurally complex vitamin identified to date, and the only one that contains a metal ion. Vitamin B12 forms red crystals, which is why it is often referred to as the “red vitamin.”
