Product Description
Products Description of Magnesium Carbonate CAS#546-93-0
Magnesium carbonate (MgCO3, pKso = 7.5–8.2) is an important magnesium compound that occurs naturally as the mineral magnesite. However, the magnesium carbonate used in the United States is predominantly synthetically manufactured.
It is mainly obtained through the mining of natural magnesite. The trihydrate form, MgCO3·3H2O, is prepared by mixing magnesium and carbonate ion solutions in the presence of carbon dioxide.
Product Application of Magnesium Carbonate CAS#546-93-0
Magnesium carbonate has a wide range of applications across multiple industries. It is used in flooring materials, fireproofing, and fire-extinguishing compositions; as a filler and smoke suppressant in plastics; as a reinforcing agent in neoprene rubber; and as a drying agent and color-retention additive in foods and cosmetics.
In medicine, magnesium carbonate serves as an antacid and is also added to table salt. Additionally, it is an important starting material for the production of various magnesium compounds.
