Product Description

Product Description

Sodium sulfide is a chemical compound with the formula Na₂S, and it is often encountered in its hydrated form Na₂S·9H₂O. Both forms are colorless, water-soluble salts that produce strongly alkaline solutions. When exposed to moisture in the air, Na₂S and its hydrates release hydrogen sulfide gas, which has a characteristic rotten egg odor. Anhydrous sodium sulfide appears as a yellow to brick-red crystalline solid or fused mass. Upon exposure to moisture, it can absorb water from the air, leading to spontaneous heating and potential ignition of nearby flammable materials. Industrial-grade sodium sulfide typically exhibits pink, reddish-brown, or yellowish-brown coloration due to the presence of impurities.

Product Application of Sodium Sulfide CAS#1313-82-2

Medical Research: Used in H₂S studies to investigate its effects on diabetes prevention in animal models.

Dye and Textile Industry: Functions in the production of sulfur dyes, as a reducing agent, and as a mordant.

Metallurgy and Mining: Employed in the oxidation of gold, lead, and copper ores and as a flotation agent.

Paper, Leather, and Rubber Processing: Used as a depilatory for leather, a digestion aid in paper-making, and in pigment and rubber treatments.
